June plays host to two parenting awareness days – Global Day of Parents on 1st June and Supporting Parents and Carers on 25th June.
These days were created to reflect on the extraordinary role of a parent or care giver, and one which knows no bounds, forever placing the needs of the child before their own (something The Brain Collective know a little bit about).
Margaret Denham’s poem A Mother’s Love Knows No Bounds exemplifies the unique and complex relationship between mother and child.
…..even through the difficult times
of growing pains and rebellion
your arms will always be open
with hugs to take away the pain
because a Mother’s love knows no bounds
For those of you who are new in these parts, it was the love of two mothers, which started our quest for a better life, through the help of neurofeedback.
Two mothers, Maria and Melanie searched to the ends of the earth for answers for their children whose health was in the process of deteriorating. Feeling trapped, but determined, they arrived at Neurofeedback, a therapeutic intervention which regulates the brain – eureka, our duo had found the solution!
Primal, instinctive, and wholeheartedly intuitive, the role of a parent surpasses all boundaries and reaches unfathomable depths, and as professionals (and parents) we understand the dynamic incredibly well, it is powerful, and not always straightforward when life presents us with challenges.
Our Harrogate clinic welcomes clients in each day, but we never support just the person with the symptoms, we are there to walk the journey with the entire family, because when it comes to challenges in children, the pressure on the parents can be immense.
Often carrying the world on their shoulders, we sit, listen, and learn, gulp down a big mug of tea and set out to identify the best neurofeedback solutions for them and their families.
Being a parent is, in our opinion, the most important job in the entire world, because to that one person, you are their everything; our role varies and whilst one day we’re there to make them laugh, on others we must give them hope, but our main task as a parent is forever to guide and support, and what an honour that is.
We took a few moments to ask the mother of one of our clients about her thoughts on the role of a parent of a child who is facing challenges.
“As a mum of a neurodivergent child, life was at times very difficult not only for my son but for the whole family. 9 years of nights spent sitting on the bedroom floor when sleep was elusive. Many days of frustration, anger, hurt, violence in everyday life, everything feeling like a struggle. Grief for a life that I thought I would have with kids that I felt had been taken away. But an unwavering love for a child who was obviously struggling to cope too but not knowing how to help and support and the search for what we could do.
Finding the team at The Brain Collective was like a beacon of hope when everyone else had no ideas. Not only were they understanding to the needs of my son but also understanding how this was impacting us as parents.
Neurofeedback has saved my sanity and helped to bring a little bit of calm back to the household. While it’s an ongoing process I am forever grateful for the support and care they all show to each and every person they meet.”
