What is Alpha Theta training?
Alpha Theta training facilitates the sub-conscious resolution of traumatic memories. It negates fears and habits that continue to trigger uncomfortable feelings and behaviours. It enables the safe surfacing and processing of traumatic memories whilst in a deeply relaxed state.
How it started
In 1990 there was a cohort of Vietnam veterans who had suffered years of recurrent nightmares and flashbacks. A phenomenon we today call PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Drugs and alcohol had become coping strategies until Alpha Theta training was first brought to clinical practice by Eugene Peniston.
The therapy saw a significantly greater improvement in the mental health issues of these men. It also saw a much lower relapse rate with substance abuse than with talk therapy alone.
Training in Practice
A safe and calm environment is created for the session – You will sit in a deeply reclined position with a blanket, in a dimly lit room. An eye mask is recommended but not essential.
Through over-ear headphones you will listen to a selection of Guided Imagery recordings by Evvy Shapero to facilitate relaxation into this deeper state.
How it Works
Binaural beats are delivered via headphones to encourage the ebb and flow of Theta and Alpha brain waves. Gentle ‘gong’ sounds reward the brain when deeper states are accessed.
AlphaTheta training is recommended to facilitate resolving fears and traumas after the client can self-regulate with the help of awake-state training, using other neurofeedback methods in our toolkit.
We recommend AlphaTheta training:
- When negative habits are formed through addictive experience.
- For those suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
- Where there is a history of developmental or emotional trauma.
- To assist recovery from a major illness.
- During big life changes and transitions like divorce or the death of a loved one.
- For optimal mental fitness and peak performance training.
We have been trained personally by Evvy Shapero from the California Pain Medicine Centre in the application and delivery of Alpha Theta deep state training.
