Brain Training For An Ageing Brain

Many ageing adults are troubled by the small signs that they are not as sharp mentally as they used to be. You may share some of these worries:

Things You Can Do To Help Your Brain

Brain science has shown that you can stay sharp as you age. Although some degree of cognitive decline may be unavoidable, the exploding neuroscience of brain ageing is revealing a new roadmap – showing how to stay mentally fit as you age.

Things you can do at home to help keep your wits about you:

  • Performing puzzles / brainteasers
  • Eating healthily
  • Exercising
  • Socialising

The research is clear. For many, brain ageing does lead to cognitive decline: problems with attention and remembering new information, slower thinking, reduced problem-solving. But research is also suggesting that this does not have to happen to you. Experts in neuroscience research are very clear: by making planned use of the brain’s amazing ability to reshape itself, which neuroscience calls neuroplasticity, you can get sharp and stay sharp as you age.

I have had a number of sessions to tweak the performance of my brain. I have had about a dozen sessions of different types and have noticed significant changes. In particular I have noticed that I feel sharper and more engaged with the world around me. Another positive reaction has been that I am sleeping better - on waking up I now feel awake immediately and do not want to stay in bed.

Looking at my brain maps has been very informative as this gives objective evidence of what is happening and how my brain changes after individual sessions and over time. This insight is very valuable in understanding how your brain in working and how it progresses during training.
